I was playing Diablo2 the other day, and noticed Blizzard implemented something that bans words in names such as "F---" or Penis or wutever. For example, if you did have any offensive words in your name, the server would not create the character, and would say "Invalid User Name" or something like that.
Anet should have implemented something like that to prevent further trouble

guess what, this game is made for 13+. Says so right on the box. Btw, who do you think you are restricting a thread based on age. I'm 16, and I post where i want, thank you.
Edit- thanks for removing the age bit in the thread arkantos

They did.
And Guild Wars is rated "T". Seems like an accurate rating of the game to me.
edit: the OPs name makes this thread somewhat ironic

Because their are ways around it just like their are ways around the blizzard filter. I didn't say it was perfect. Do all guru'rs need to have things spelled out to them?

That is the official definition of 'T' rating, however the ESRB doesn't get to decide what's put in and left out of the game, Anet does, and if Anet wants to keep crude names out of their game, but allow a female elementalist a g-string so be it.
Besides, underwear and names are hardly in the same category.

Can Teens not handle the word "Cleavage" ????

it actually does not matter what rating it has
it is game where people of all ages and all races can join in my humble opinion, and one should not behave like its in your own bed room.
that aside.
I don't see how the female characters are slutty. Its how ones behaves that make it so.

I find myself asking..........Is Guild Wars Considerd an Adult Game ?
|
It is rated T for Teen.
Quote:
I sure thought it was. A game developed by perverts who design all the female characters to be slutty. Most all the armors have them half naked or more and go to the point of "sexy" in some ways. Just take off their clothes and you can see how perverted the designers are.
|
You could say the same for nearly every single MMO in existence. It's a known fact that sex sells. Especially to the target audience. Young males.
Everquest, Wow, Conan...even the table top dungeons and dragons books utilize the same concept.

How many of the female characters dances are adult oriented ?
|
None. All the dances are actual dance styles. Some of them are traditional, some are popular, and some are a mix.
Quote:
Theres a chat filter to safeguard the teens from adult language.
|
That's not the purpose of the chat filter. Not fully anyway. The purpose is to filter out occasional lapses in judgment. The existence of the filter is not a license.

Now lets talk about player names.
How rediculous and immature can our GM's be to ban certain player names in this game ?
How many silly names have you seen banned for no reason ?

Maybe one or two out of the hundreds listed so far. Yours deserves it's ban. (Hiding your problem in this rant was quite transparent.)

HAHA no. Guild Wars is a child friendly game. Ages 3 and up, ignore the box.
Please, if you say 'damn' in local chat or have 'explicit' in your name you get banned. This game caters to children, jehova's witnesses, and carebears alike. What a freaking JOKE.

Am i right in making a guess that someone reported ur name cleavage?
I dont see whats wrong with it, because its a statement of fact. Its like naming a character Nice Smile, nothing wrong with it.
But yes, Anet is retarded in determining whats a bad name and a good name. Back when I first started, I couldnt think of a name for a warrior. I tried O W N E A G E and the game wouldnt let me use it, saying it had innapropriate language or whatnot.

... The only "adult dance" would be seeing a female or male taking his or her clothes off while dancing and there isn't any in Guild Wars. Please go see more dance styles.

Yeah your right.... theres nothing adult to a female ele dance wheres shes shaking her boobs for you. And nothing adult at all to the female rit dance where she may as well collect a $20 bill when she finishes. Hmm your also right theres nothing adult about the booty shake to female rangers and paragons.

Sure. I'd be happy to.
The EULA states: "(d) Character Name. In order to use the service, you must create a character and choose a name for your character to identify your character to other Members (your "Character Name"). You may not select as your Character Name the name of another person, or a name which violates any third party's trademark right, copyright, or other proprietary right, or which may mislead other players to believe you to be an employee of NC Interactive or its affiliated companies, or which NC Interactive deems at its sole discretion to be vulgar or otherwise offensive. NC Interactive reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to (1) delete or alter any Character Name or (2) terminate any license granted herein, for any reason whatsoever, including, without limitation, any suspected or actual infringement of any trademark or trade name right, copyright, or other proprietary right."
Now if you notice the bold section it states that you cannot name your character anything that NC Interactive deems to be vulgar or offensive.
They seem to believe that Cleavage is inappropriate.
Their standard modus operandi is to temp ban anyone with a name deemed as such and to require you to rename the offending character after the temp ban is completed.
Does that answer your question?
Suck it up. Think of a name that won't be offensive in any way and when your ban is lifted rename your character to something less inane.

This is exactly my point. The male warrior dances thrusts his hips but you seem to totally okay with that. Point is, these dances are only sexual dance because they move a part of the body that you find sexual attractive. And for god sakes, they are just moving it. The funniest part is the double standard. Male dances = non sexual. Female dances = sexual.

The dances are adult-oriented the same way James Bond's innuendo jokes are. The ESRB is much like the MPAA, they tend to care less about thematics and more about running down their checklist of "Did they show this body part!? Did they say this word!?"
Enforcement seems to be kind of random anyway, I never got actioned for a couple weeks of griefing Fort Aspenwood, or for having a character named "Necropedophi Ie", meanwhile some people are getting bans on their first minor screwup. Who knows.

The chat filter allows individual players the option to remove text they would rather not see, instead of simply choosing to ignore it. However, since there is no similar filter for character names, these same individuals feel the need to force the community to change because of their objections instead of simply choosing to ignore them. Even worse, people have been banned for offensive language even with the chat filter.
But what makes a report justified? From what I have seen, anyone can voice any obscure objection and have it result in a ban. Setting aside the argument of syntax and semantics, it disturbs me that a certain few can override all the others who apparently have no problems whatsoever regarding these issues.
